“Our hosts on Saturday will be determined to get their season up and running with a victory over ourselves, and so Borough will have to be more than on their mettle.”
In what is an exceptionally busy weekend of Penryn action, the 1st XV will be aiming to keep their unbeaten start to the season intact when they visit newly promoted Wessex on Saturday.
The men from Exeter won the Devon One championship last season, fifteen points ahead of runners-up Torrington, losing just one match, a 33-28 reverse to Exeter Saracens, in the process. They also drew two matches back to back, against South Molton and New Cross. Last at this level in the 2012/13 season, it's fair to say that Wessex are still finding their feet in the Cornwall/Devon League League this season, after suffering reverses to Hayle, Honiton and Lanner in their three matches so far. Whilst a glance at the embryonic league table will show Penryn with three wins and no losses, and Wessex with no wins and three losses, this weekend is very much a case of beware the wounded Wessex animal. Our hosts on Saturday will be determined to get their season up and running with a victory over ourselves, and so Borough will have to be more than on their mettle. Kick-off at Wessex's Flowerpot Playing Fields home, near to the River Exe in the city, is at 3:00pm.
If you are not able to make the trip to watch the 1st XV, there is plenty of action at The Memorial Ground on Saturday to keep you entertained. Penryn Saracens are in action at 3:00pm against Redruth IIs. The Reds' 2nd XV have had a good range of fixtures so far this season, starting with a pre-season friendly with Illogan Park's 1st XV in mid August and a recent clash with St. Austell IIs. The rebirth of Penryn Saracens is massively important for our club, so the team would greatly appreciate your support for their match, which kicks off at 3:00pm.
PenFal Colts play their first game at The Memorial Ground on Saturday, when Hayle come to visit for a match that kicks-off at 1:00pm. The Colts produced a highly credible showing in their previous outing this season, when they took on reigning Cornwall champions St. Austell a fortnight ago. Our Colts side are very young and very talented. It would be good to see a good number of supporters there to see the stars of the future in action.
There's a full roster of action on Sunday with training at home for the U6s, U7s, U8s, U9s, U14s and U16s, starting at 10:00am. The U10s have an exciting training day in Exeter followed by an afternoon at Sandy Park watching the reigning Aviva Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs take on Wasps. The U11s and U12s have their Education Days at St. Austell at 10:00am and 1:30pm respectively. The U13s play their opening match of the season at The Memorial Ground at 10:30am, with Perranporth the visitors. Borough's U15s also host their Perranporth counterparts at 11:00am. Penryn's Girl's section are all at Liskeard-Looe's Pitch Up and Play event.
The Ladies have no fixture this weekend.
We look forward to hearing how all the Penryn sides in action get on - Chons da to One and All!
