U13s Maintain Storming Start to Season!
Alan Richards reports on another outstanding victory for the U13s.
Penryn completed a second win of the season over a Wadebridge side which where larger both physically and numerically. With 5 players unavailable due to injury already this season, albeit not all rugby related, Penryn done well just to field a team which was aided by Lewis Floyd and Oliver Bettison, both making their debuts. At this point may I say that both new players acquitted themselves well with Lewis getting on the scoresheet.
It was no surprise that the match was played out in bad conditions with rain throughout but the pitch held up well. Penryn passed the ball well considering the weather and many of the tries scored were in part due to the quality of the handling.
The opening exchanges were very even and competitive with Penryn putting pressure on the visitor’s line with two potential tries not being given with the ball over the try line. Penryn had by now taken the lead when Wadebridge had two breakouts which were defended with superb covering tackles, one being a fine tap tackle only meters short of the line. Although Penryn scored at a steady rate, at no point was this one-way traffic with the Borough boys having to work hard for everything, in both attack and defence.
In the second half Penryn and Wadebridge produced more of the same as both teams went each other with no quarter given and Wadebridge got the try their efforts deserved. However, Penryn came out on top and can be very proud of themselves after a beating a team who were undefeated last season.
All the coaches and parents were impressed by what they watched today, boys you made us proud.
